A^3 is the Silicon Valley outpost of Airbus Group SE, the parent company of Airbus (the leading supplier of large commercial aircraft in the world), Airbus Helicopters (the world’s biggest maker of civil helicopters, formerly Eurocopter), and Airbus Defense and Space (which makes satellites, drones, and various defense products). To support these two missions, a small and dedicated operations team provides an underlying infrastructure of shared services, such as contracting, communications, legal, finance, information technology, administration, and facilities.
We’re seeking an articulate and media-savvy Communications Manager. This position will report to the Vice President of Shared Services but the role is to be a trusted internal partner to each of our projects and the A3 leadership team. To be successful, candidates must be dynamic, engaging, and able to operate independently.
In this role, activities will include:
Implement A3 communications strategy and direct strategy updates when needed
Conduct background research, track trends, prepare presentations, participate in workshops, lead meetings, and draft briefing papers
Monitor A3 organization, project, and key staff mentions in media
Develop internal publications such as newsletters, intranet blog posts, email announcements, and Slack forums
Foster an A3 specific brand and ecosystem presence that promotes recruiting and hiring efforts
Develop external communications products, such as press releases, social network posts, briefings, and handouts
Create a series of videos for different audiences and message content for use in multiple scenarios
Conduct or manage media training of A3 leadership and employees in publicly facing roles
Assist Project Executives in crafting specialized communications plans tailored to project objectives
Provide direction and oversight to communications and media service providers
Determine efficacy of communications-related expenditures using key performance indicators
Coordinate with Airbus Group counterparts at our US and European headquarters to promote consistent messaging that respects our parent company’s branding and image
Help organize major partnerships events, internal Airbus events, social media strategy, and field all inbound media inquiries
Desired qualifications include:
A university degree
5+ years of ambitious work experience in media, public relations, corporate communications, and/or journalism. Ideally, you have several years with established communications firms under your belt.
Experience supporting many types of clients (varying in size and market), and ambition to try your hand at taking a communications leadership role within an organization.
Tech savvy and highly adaptable, so you can develop new solutions that match the evolving nature of A3’s start-up business model
Some of the qualities that we’re looking for are:
Experience supporting start-ups and large companies in multiple domains (but with meaningful exposure to aerospace and technology)
Superb verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to compose high quality correspondence and content in organization-specific tone and voice
Ability to translate complex technical terminology and concepts into content digestible by non-technical experts
Existing network of contacts within key media outlets for emerging technology and Silicon Valley trade press
Some international experience and/or a strong exposure to foreign cultures
A focus on speed
A healthy skepticism for process and bureaucracy
