Instacart is a same-day e-commerce startup offering home grocery delivery in as little as one hour. Customers order from Instacart’s website or mobile app, where they can choose from a catalog of 4 million items across both national grocery chains and local specialty grocers. Instacart employs a fleet of personal shoppers to collect and deliver orders quickly and conveniently, all for a low-cost delivery fee.

The Senior Director of Communications will have responsibility for all corporate, product, executive and internal communications. S/he will partner closely with Instacart’s executive team to both develop and execute Instacart’s overall narrative.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of Instacart’s communications and PR to proactively and consistently tell the Instacart story
  • Define Instacart’s voice, including clear messaging to all stakeholders involved – customers, shoppers, CPGs, retailers, investors, opinion-makers, and other media outlets
  • Formulate and drive a strong communications strategy that effectively conveys Instacart’s vision and products
  • Develop and build a world class communication organization
  • Influence both the company and product to align with a consistent communication narrative
  • Work closely with all internal teams to proactively communicate stories and narratives
  • Ensure brand consistency at a hyper-local level by effectively developing and executing Instacart messaging specific to local culture
  • Manage crisis communications – exhibit good judgment, have smart positioning, proactively prepare “battle plans” and be able to weather the storm under pressure
  • Act as a liaison with key media and know when and how to leverage these relationships

Requirements:

  • B.A., B.S., or Masters in a relevant field and 8+ years of experience
  • Worked in a startup and resourceful
  • Be a master of their craft
  • Go-getter, bias towards action
  • A great people leader balanced with being humble
  • Excel at strategic message development, brand building and crisis/reputation management as well as understand the importance of internal communications
  • Strong storyteller who understands Instacart’s vision
