We are looking for a dynamic communications expert to support Ciena’s PR program across the globe, with a particular focus on the Asia Pacific region. We’re seeking someone with exceptional writing, messaging and story development skills, media relations passion and savvy, and the ability to develop and execute effective press outreach strategies. This person plays a key role in support of Ciena marketing campaigns and events, and ensures that our PR programs and activities are aligned with corporate and regional objectives and within legal requirements. This person may also work with Ciena’s social media team to help develop and execute social media efforts across multiple channels, including Ciena Insights blog, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and Facebook, as well as help produce Ciena’s new Podcast series “Network Insights.” With strong corporate communications experience, either in-house or with an agency, this person will ideally have worked with B2B companies, preferably in the technology/telecom/IT industry and those with a global presence. Importantly, we are looking for someone who can work with a remote manager and geographically dispersed team, with the ability to comfortably coordinate projects virtually – via email, phone, video conference, and other methods as well as travel. While this person will be responsible for providing direction to outside PR agencies, he/she will not directly manage Ciena personnel.
You will work with the Corporate Communications team to identify opportunities and execute plans that tell Ciena’s story (in a non-technical manner) through traditional and social media, thought leadership platforms and other vehicles. You will support the company’s global/corporate PR programs, with an emphasis on Asia Pacific and software, as well as help manage Ciena’s contracted PR agencies.
Primarily, you will develop messaging and content, including press releases, FAQs, media pitches, blogs, articles, podcast outlines, LinkedIn posts, etc. You will oversee contracted PR agencies to help design and execute PR strategies. You will coordinate PR programs for global marketing campaigns and organize PR around industry events. You will prepare Ciena spokespeople for interviews. And, you will monitor and measure Ciena media coverage.
You will collaborate with key internal marketing, sales and technology teams, as well as contracted PR agencies, to develop/review content, secure approvals and execute strategic press outreach distribution plans. You may also work with our executive team and customers/partners on various types of content as well as media opportunities.
You will play a key role in helping to raise brand awareness of Ciena, our value proposition and our market leadership through media exposure and other thought leadership efforts. In addition to general, across-the-board support of these activities, you will have primary responsibility for doing so in two key growth areas for Ciena — 1) the Asia-Pacific region and 2) our software business.
We want someone with a deep passion for storytelling, who excels at the written word. We’d like diverse writing experience, from formal Associated Press style to conversational blog content. We are also looking for the ability to translate complex technical concepts into compelling news angles and consumable stories. We need prior experience in PR, either in an agency or corporate setting – and previous work in the Asia Pacific market is a significant plus. We also prefer some background – and interest – in the technology space and B2B environments. We are a fast-paced, high-volume team so you’ll need strong organizational and time management skills, and be someone who takes initiative. You will also need with a global team across multiple time zones and be willing to travel domestically and internationally.
